Masks: No more than four hours without sanitizing

The resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic has made the use of masks mandatory in practically all of Spain. The World Health Organization states that “the widespread use of masks by the general population to reduce community transmission of SARS-CoV2 is justified not only by its high transmissibility, but also by the ability that masks have demonstrated to block the emission of infected droplets, "very important, when it is not possible to maintain a safe distance." And it is that, very possibly, this protection system will be incorporated into our way of living, at least until an effective vaccine is found and distributed, as was already happening in some Asian countries during the winter.

The daily use of this protective clothing is undoubtedly causing damage to our skin that, depending on the type of dermis, lifestyle and genetics of the person; It can cause deterioration of our face and even pathologies such as irritative dermatitis, hematomas or pressure ulcers, among others. In the event of any anomaly, it is important to go to a doctor and act preventively.

In general, specialists recommend not keeping any mask - even reusable ones - for more than 4 hours in a row without sanitizing, airing and drying. It is also advisable to apply 0.6 percent didecyldimethylammonium spray to the mask, both inside and outside. If you wash your mask, you should soak it in water with diluted bleach for at least 15 minutes, then rinse it by soaking it in water and then in soapy water for 5 minutes to rinse it at the end. It is very important to let it dry completely.
